All About Angelwings Pony Rescue and Sanctuary

Hi I'm Kate Loomis. I have loved ponies all my life. I'm 38 years old and still love ponies now more than ever.

My first pony was a buckskin Shetland named Cinnamon. I rescued him from a mean little boy who used to beat him.
I was 16 at the time. I am very small - only 4' 11" now so I can still ride the bigger ponies but I prefer to drive them. My first driving pony was a welsh name Tequila. I leased her and we would drive everyday. I didn't drive again for 15 years but I owned ponies the whole time. When I got Dilly I knew she was a great pony for driving. I took lessons to teach her and (remind me!) how to drive. She is a great cart pony and very willing.

What the lessons didn't teach me was how to properly fit the harness with pads. Dilly's harness was too tight and she got welts from not being padded. It didn't hurt her and I iced them right away so that they were gone instantly. What it did do was to kill the hair follicles and the hair in that area turned white! Thank God she wasn't hurt and I learned a very good lesson that I now pass on to teach others. It is very important to have all of your tack fit properly as to avoid sores.

After training Dilly to pull a cart I was hooked. Next was Savanna, Toby and Scamper. My husband Cliff was so excited about the ponies pulling that he started building carts and buckboards. He even makes the wood spoke wheels.
